Plaque removal
Calculus/plaque is one of the most insidious “illnesses” of the mouth. It is formed as a result of a natural process, that is everybody has calculus on their teeth. During eating and drinking certain hard and soft parts stick to the teeth, this is called plaque. In an ideal case, dental plaque should be removed after each meal, so the decay of teeth and the formation of calculus could be prevented. Calculus is formed on the teeth when their surface is slightly corrugated (as it is naturally, this can be corrected by polishing), and calcium carbonate sticks on the plaque stuck on the tooth. This rather hard material does not only push the tooth away from the gums when accumulated, but it can colour in a rather bad-looking way from food and drinks, and primarily from smoking.
If the gums are inflamed, the teeth bleed when brushed; there is a chance that it is simple calculus. Lot of people are inclined not to take calculus into consideration saying that they will not visit the doctor because of a little bleeding of the teeth. However, bleeding is only a symptom, one of the earliest ones. If it is not taken seriously, and you do not want to help the problem, it might result in much serious problems (all kinds of periodontal diseases.
Modern calculus removal is not about pulling calculus off the teeth using a small scraper. An ultrasound equipment is used at ChainBridge dentistry, which actually bursts calculus off the teeth due to its high-frequency vibration, of course, in an actually faintly perceivable way. The option of using fast lidocainous disinfection is open to all of our patients, afterwards even the uncomfortable feeling can be further reduced. After removing the calculus the teeth are polished to have it keep its cleanness and whiteness as long as possible.
