In-lay (inlay)
Inlay (or in-lay) is a type of tooth conservation treatments elaborated not too long ago. It is general about tooth conservation treatments that their aim is to have the condition of the tooth started decaying not to further deteriorate, and not to have it extracted.
A decayed tooth, if neglected, slowly disappears – or usually it is extracted by the dentist when the free nerve-endings cause such pain for the patient that they cannot endure it anymore even with pain-killers.
A type of filling is called inlay. A special feature of the inlay is that it is made by a dental laboratory technician, consequently it makes the most accurate filling possible. As it is indicated by its name, in this case a filling made of some nature-friendly material is inserted in the inside of the tooth. To make the term more exact: the inlay is not only a filling for it is used when the tooth is decayed at such a degree that traditional fillings or aesthetic fillings were likely to fall out or further deteriorate the construction of the tooth. In a severely deteriorated tooth an inlay is inserted instead of a simple filling which is fixed in its place with a special, very strong bonding material. The inlay is not only a strong, high-quality, biological risk-free, harmless material, but also it is much nicer than the filling, and it is similar to aesthetic fillings.
The inlay is prepared in a way that the tooth is cleaned using a drill, take a sample of the cavity, and insert a temporary filling. Then the inlay perfectly following the shape of the whole established is inserted in the tooth. The inlay type filling may be made of gold, gold and ceramics, or plastics. Its advantage is that it is much more accurate in comparison to traditional fillings and aesthetic fillings, it perfectly fits the tooth, does not leave place for the decay to spread on.
