Implantation operations are among the most serious dental interventions. Implants are inserted when a tooth or several teeth, or a total denture are wished to be replaced.

Implants are made of titanium, titanium alloy accepted by the human body, although metal-free implants may also be used, if necessary. Before an implantation operation a rather thorough inspection is needed, this is provided for by the panoramic X-ray and the small X-ray. With the help of the panoramic X-ray an all-round picture is made of the patient’s teeth, while the small X-ray – if it is needed – provides a high resolution, very detailed picture.

Before inserting the implants the designated areas are anaesthetized, then the gums are exposed, and finally, with the help of a bone-drill the location of the tooth root is prepared in the jawbone. The implant is screwed into its place, and the gums are closed back. The implant ossifies with the receiving bone approximately in 2-6 months. Typically, 2-4 months are enough in the lower jawbone, while 4 or even 6 months elapse until the perfect fixing in the upper jawbone.

The second stage of the implantation operation is the placement of the structure. The implant is made free, and the teeth affected are shaped. An impression is made after inserting the structure, then the dental mechanic prepares the tooth or bridge, etc., which will be fixed during another treatment. Although the last step is inserting the tooth replacement, actually this cannot be called an operation as it is a quick, routine process, during which no cut is needed, but the final, aesthetic artificial tooth is fixed on the structure using a screw or glue.
